Around fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Police say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then found multiple other vandalized cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials say initial examinations suggest the fluid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; officials are currently not cognizant of any harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities said they were working "to solve the incident" and have asked to the residents for information.
A senior representative said the incident made him stunned and required to be resolved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the death of nine victims by a gunman focusing on individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
